It seems to be the way of humans to make something up when encountered with a person they don’t know very well. This is a part of human nature, which has little to do with your true self. But does the unknown become less scary when you attach a label to it?
Perhaps this why people really don’t get to know one another, because once I tag you I can move on to the next person. If you flip that around that could also mean you may be afraid to get to know yourself better. You might just get disappointed. I guess it’s just easier to be disappointed in another than to think of yourself as a failure.
Passing judgement is a good way to keep people separated, so there is less of a chance of realizing our true connection with others. The ego loves this game and will try to convince you of this as well.
